  • Introduction
    Multiple trials have demonstrated the efficacy of implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) for the prevention of sudden arrhythmic death. However, drivers treated with an ICD have an ongoing risk of sudden incapacitation that might cause an accident while driving a car.

    Methods
    Identify the elements present in the cardiologic recommendations proposed in the United States and Europe for driving in patients with ICD. METHODS: We performed literature review in MEDLINE and LILACS medical data.

    Private drivers with an ICD for primary or secondary preventions has distinct restrictions according to the origin of the recommendations. In both recommendations
