Introduction
As an occupational health specialist with an interest in the overall health of workers, I became interested in finding the significance of a sedentary way of life as a public health problem related to the work environment, in acceptance of the notion that sedentarism is one of the most silent and aggressive risks to good health, causing an increase in the morbidity and mortality of laborers at national and world levels.
The object of the research was to arrive at a reflexive theory that would cause a change from a sedentary way of life into a healthy one, as seen from the labor context.

Methods
This allowed me to identify the reality of several scenarios and moments, utilizing diverse methodologies and becoming involved with its main participants: workers, employers and health and safety professionals of 23 participating companies. The field work was begun in 2002 and finished in 2008.

Results
Throughout these constructive and reflective experiences, I was able to conclude that the phenomenon of sedentarism or physical idleness is highly prevalent in the working force, thus hindering a state of good health the workers knowledge ability and proactivity in the area of sedentarism is precarious. There are no official policies implemented to deal with the problem. The organizational culture of the industry does not consider sedentarism as an overall risk to the workers’ health, to its own productivity and to its financial results, thus no strategies are considered to make changes in this area.

Discussion
All mentioned facts induce me to propose that it has become necessary to tackle the problem of sedentarism in the working environment from various angles: cultural, sanitary, bioethical and legal.
I propose to implement training programs to erradicate sedentarism and promote physical activity programs in the working environment.
