Growing amount of evidence now supports rise in Stress at the workplace being a primary concern and cause for lifestyle diseases along with decreased productivity. We have developed a model that uses a holistic approach in dealing with work place stress of the individual both from assessment and intervention point of view, purpose being to build the reservoir of wellbeing, enhance the capability to deal with stress.
Methods
We piloted this model in two organizations(multinational)with groups of 11 and 19 leaders. The study was divided into three phases. First phase included a group intervention;an online questionnaire for holistic wellbeing and an assessment of current response to stressful situations called the resilience scale. The method was a group intervention facilitated by two experts.Second phase was follow-up individual coaching calls. Final phase comprised of a group intervention. The quantitative and qualitative data has been analyzed.
Results
The process comprised of a visual on importance and satisfaction in each dimension of holistic wellbeing which depicts the gap analysis pointing to the pockets of stress, conscious and unconscious;leading to surprise and discomfort but a powerful way to initiate coaching and aids in taking ownership about ones current unhelpful response to stress and hence willingness to change.100% participants took part or full responsibility of building their own resilience at end of first session.23% showed resistance to intervention following 2 individual sessions when challenged deeper which required more support, but the wrap up group session within average 6 months concluded with significant improvement in subjective wellbeing and Resilience.
Discussion
The overall model seems to be an innovative and well-fitted approach for holistic interventions in the future. This is an example of how important it is to address every aspect of the individual to achieve optimum and sustainable wellbeing as well as flourish. It can be replicated cross-culturally and is scalable with train the trainer model.
