Chile passed in 1968 the Occupational Safety and Health Act N° 16.744, which established a mandatory insurance to be paid by employers for all dependent workers in the country.  This insurance can be paid to private or public organizations for its administration and it entitles companies to receive prevention activities and workers to receive health care and wage replacement for if affected by work-related injuries or diseases. This insurance must also provide for permanent disability payments, either for a one time indemnization or a monthly pension until retirement age is reached by the disabled workers.
