  • Introduction
    Fire personnel are routinely exposed to extremely hazardous environments, and must continually seek care for their physical, mental and spiritual, in order to maintain good health, prevent diseases and maintain the ability to do their job effectively and productive. Based on the above, the purpose of this literature review is to present a model of the Training Program for Disease and Incidents Prevention in the performance of firefighting activity, contributing to the healthy development and performance of professionals in this area. The final goal of this effort is to reduce morbidity and mortality of fire personnel by making awareness and understanding of the causes of illness and death more frequent in this group as well as guidelines for its prevention.

    Methods
    A retrospective study of Firemen Training Programs in Fire Technological Institute of Venezuela, and registers of Incidentes and Occupational Diseases from international sources was conducted from 2005 until 2011 to analize the current education system of the Firemen and propose a new Training Program for the Prevention of Occupational Diseases and Incidents of the Firemen in Venezuela.

    Results
    Based on the reviewed information about the epidemiology, types of injuries and illnesses commonly presented by firefighters in the usual performance of their duties, the current training system needs several improvements to cover the first areas of knowledge in the area of prevention related to the subject. A new type of program is proposed to have a more complete training to prevent incidents and occupational diseases in this type of workers.

    Discussion
    This is a review of training system on Occupational Health and Incident Prevention on Firefighter's work with a final contribution that proposing a targeted training plan as an important link of defense against the negative effects of firefighting activities, considering the recomendations of leading authorities related with this topic in the world.
