Safety Work intervention model based on the behavior of Supervisors in manufacturing companies of the Valle del Cauca

Introduction
Among the techniques based on behavioral psychology, aimed at changing certain behaviors previously defined in job, is the positive reinforcement. While the process of reinforcement of behavior has been known for several decades as part of the repertoire of speech analysis-modification of behavior, the experiences of its application in industry are not very prolific. This research focuses attention on those behaviors of the supervisors who can modify the behavior of its employees toward safety work. The research was focused on designing and documenting in the practice a model of safety management based on supervisors' behavior, and verifying its impact in reducing accidents.

Methods
The study included a sample of 3 large companies in the industrial and manufacturing sector of the city of Cali, comprising 53 workers who worked in management positions and supervisors, were applied to various types of surveys, interviews, check list and numerous sessions work where we used the ABC model (antecedents, behavior, consequences) for each critical behavior observed.

Results
Over 50% of the areas where they work 222 employees were found positive behavioral changes in a month decreased 10% of unsafe behaviors in two months by 15% in 6 months and more than 68% of these. In other areas the increase in safe behavior was more discrete, approximately 1 to 2% per month.

Discussion
It is shown that when supervisors achieve better performance in their behavior toward safety work, you can consolidate an improvement in the conduct of coworkers and reduce the accidents, we designs a procedure that ensures the improvement and consistency in performance about the funcions of the supervisors that is focused in the safety work of the coworkers
