OSH-EASTNET is a project financed by European Union under IPA 2008 Programme – "Environment, Energy Efficiency, and Health and Safety at Work". The overall objective of the action is to share knowledge and good practice between the Italian Association of Industrial Hygienists (AIDII) and other OSH associations of the Western Balkans and Turkey.
Methods
Overall analysis of the project activities performed in the period 01.01.2010 – 30.06.2011.
Results
Partners in the project are National Association of Public Health of Albania, Macedonian Confederation of Employers, Association for Safety and Health – Serbia and Association of Public Health Research of Turkey. During the project 11 technical meetings, 6 workshops and 5 study visits were organised; Macedonian Association of Industrial Hygiene was created and certified OSHNET School for workplace risk assessment was established. More than 500 experts, researchers, professors and staff from 10 countries were involved in the project’s activities. Permanent network between partners with main goal the to develop a discussion and exchange relevant know-how was created. Agreement for scientific cooperation between Medical University of Florence (Italy) and University Ss.Cyril and Methodius (Macedonia) was signed. Formulation of the twinning agreement between partners is in process.
For improvement of OSH situation in the participating countries a baseline assessment of OHS legislation, investigations, research and monitoring of problems and needs were performed. It would be used as a national OSH profile for each country.
Project’s activities were presented on 8th International Scientific Conference of IOHA (Rome, September 2010) and on XIX World Congress on Safety and Health at Work (Istanbul, September 2011).
Discussion
Strengthening of the Occupational Safety and Health NETworking in EASTern Europe and Turkey and cooperation between similar existing networks is very important for further improvement of OSH situation in the region, imrovement of OSH practices in the area and enhance its harmonization with EU standards.
