Introduction
The extension of workload hours can lead to mental and physical overload, disturbed sleep-home, reflecting on the worker's vulnerability to accidents and occupational diseases.

Methods
The purpose of this study was to identify the profile of publications about the impact of workload on the health of nursing staff in scientific production in the period of 2000 to 2010, and to analyze the available evidences on the subject and to check out what the trends investigated. The study consisted of an integrative literature review, which were analyzed 17 scientific studies that met the inclusion criteria previously established. After the sample selection was carried out carefully, all the studies were read with implementation of data collection instrument for categorizing the themes.

Results
It was found that there was a predominance of productions in the form of a scientific article, that research on the working day in nursing in post-graduate studies is still little explored, that does not exist a specific nursing journal of dedicated to the study of occupational health nursing, which difficults the dissemination of knowledge produced, the publications in the area intensified after the year 2005, the Southeast was more prominent, there was a predominance of nurses conducting research in the area , that of the authors, many were professors, and the research approach was quantitative. 

Discussion
The studies were analyzed in two categories: workload hours and occupational health nursing, and as for the predominance of these themes: absenteeism, excessive workload, working conditions, quality of care, stress, quality life, occupational hazards, dob accidents, personal protective equipment, vulnerability to disease and outsourcing of health services. The data from this study indicate, a great understanding of the process of nursing work and workers' health, demonstrating the importance of research on the topic, since the publications in journals surrounding the subject are still scarce.
