Introduction
The occupational stress occurs in the day-by-day by the perception of a threatening work environment, which has demands that the worker is unable to deal with. Among the bankings at work was verified 36, 36% of stress. Studies suggest that mental and behavioral disorders are the third cause of sick leaves, in general lengthened, and that the occupational stress has been presented as an important factor to the occurrence of this pathology. The goal of this work is to describe the stages of stress in bankings of a financial institution in a capital of northeastern Brazil, and to verify its relation with sick leaves by ICD-10 F-43 in 2009.

Methods
Epidemiological descriptive study, with secondary data from SESMT, of 132 employees (66 located in selling points and 66 in the middle area) with the application of a questionnaire (LIPP, 2000).Data taken from the DATAPREV statistical yearbook of 2009 were analyzed. Analysis made by the Statistical analysis system (SAS).

Results
Among the population with stress, 2,1% is in the alarm stage, 81,2% in resistance stage, 16,7% in almost-exhaustion stage and 0% in exhaustion. There was a dominance of psychological symptoms above physical ones. These results can be compared with other published works .In 2009, the Reaction to severe stress and adjustment disorders (CID F43) was the most incident psychiatric pathology and corresponded to the 25º cause of sick leaves above 15 days of the labour environment.

Discussion
The study indicates that most of the bankings with stress were in the resistance stage, followed by almost-exhaustion and alarm. The number of sick leaves by Reaction to severe stress and adjustment disorders increased. Possibly the workers in almost-exhaustion evolve to exhaustion and then sick leave above 15 days. The problem also increases if we considers that was only analyzed the formal market.
