In 2003, WHO conducted a pilot in Vietnam, Tanzania and South Africa, producing the toolkit “Protecting Health Care Workers (HCWs) from Needlestick injuries",WHO Collaborating Centers are working with WHO Regional Offices, governments and Public Health Institutions and cooperating countries in implementing the “Preventing Occupational Transmission of Bloodborne Pathogens among HCWs” project.In 2008 , in Peru. The project started jointly with a national campaign to vaccinate HCW against Hepatitis B. To date about 75% of the 300,000 HCWs have been immunized; 1,200 trainers have instructed about 7,300 HCWs in 25 regions; five HCW policies and plans were approved, and implementation is ongoing. Success stories and good practices after the implementation of the training in several hospitals of EsSalud will be share during this special session.
