A1052 Relationship between fasting plasma glucose and random plasma glucose and glycated haemoglobin potential for diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes in an industrial setup using new diagnostic criteria

Introduction
WHO estimates by 2025 it will have more than 300 million patients in India. Industrial workers are a group working with time variability in 24X7 working hours where blood glucose examination on time are haphazard, often presenting at random post meal as a last minute or one time consultation to take approximate stock of diabetes status. ADA (American Diabetic Association) recommends HBA1C more than 6.5 percent as a cutoff for diagnosing diabetes.

Methods
It is a study where persons without known diabetes status were taken without any chronic diseases, anemia and alcoholism. The fasting and random plasma glucose and HBA1C are estimated and analyzed using Karl Pearson's coefficient of correlation for measuring the relationship with the intention to treat.

Results
Industrial workers N=41 age (49.5 +/- 15) fasting plasma glucose (126.29 +/- 39.49) mean HBA1C (8.58 +/- 2.39) random plasma glucose N=46 age (47.3 +/- 14.7) mean plasma glucose (176.6 +/- 94.39) HBA1C (6.9 +/- 1.82). The correlation fasting group r = -0.0051 and the random group r = 0.3467. The random group had 26 percent while fasting group had 31.5 percent diabetes glucose levels.

Discussion
It is an opportunistic diagnostic survey of diabetes for Industrial Workers. The first reporting group is conscious, having a less fasting glucose level despite moderate glucose control. The random reporting group has a high glucose with a positive correlation. HBA1C continues to remain and prevalent marker. It can be used in the industrial setup as dietary preparation or fasting is not required. An increase almost means certain diabetes. Random and fasting glucose estimations give instant values to dietary intake where as HBA1C gives a measure over 120 days for providing progressive diabetic micro vascular complications. Limitation is that normal value does not rule out impaired glucose tolerance. It helps to define one minute or last time consultation.
