  • Toxicological Emergencies best practices can save workers lives in case of critical accidents or exposures. Based on many years of experience and scientific knowledge in this field, Petróleos Mexicanos, has published the Medical Compendium of Toxicological Emergencies for his medical personnel responsible to attend these types of events.   The Compendium includes the chemicals considered as Acute Toxic Compounds and general information related to physical and chemical properties, absorption ways to the organism, clinical features and levels of intoxication, first aid, antidotal and medical treatment.  It also contains different groups or families of chemical compounds such as mitochondrial asphyxiating agents like acrylonitrile, hydrocyanic acid, hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen fluoride and others agents present in our oil industry.  Petróleos Mexicanos, has also published the Manual of Industrial Toxicology that includes scientific information of different groups of chemical compounds such as simple asphyxiants, primary irritants, mutagenic and carcinogenic compounds, caustic chemicals, epoxides, aliphatic amines and inhibitors of oxygen transport.   These publications are according to mexican official standards and the institutional policy and application of the Administration System of Security, Occupational Health and Environmental Protection of Petróleos Mexicanos (SSPA in its Spanish Acronym).
