  • Introduction  The management of enzymes has greatly improved over the past 40 years, in both the maufacture of enzymes and enzyme-containing detergents.

Methods  Dr Kirchner will introduce the symposium and presenters. He will provide a brief history of how hygiene and medical monitoring have contributed to the successful reduction in occupational rhinitis and asthma.

Results  The attendee will understand what resources can assist in managing enzyme safety in detergent enzyme production and manufacturing, as well as principles which could be applied to enzyme use in other industries.

Discussion  By using the results of medical surveillance, hygiene systems can be improved, this resulting in a lowering of sensitization rates and subsequent allergy.
